Hi,
I want to stream from my TiVo to the PS3, please can someone tell me how I do it. I have VLC and MPlayer installed on the PS3 (on YellowDog), though I might not have the right extras.
What's the best solution? What do I need?
Ta v. much,
A

You should be able to use TivoWebPlus or TySuiteJ. mplayer will act as a client for both. VLC works out of the box with TySuiteJ as .mpg, or you can get the plugs for .ty files.

The PS3 can play HD mpeg2 streams over the network?
What about from say an infrant server?
And can it play Mpeg2 HD burned to DL DVD?

Yes it streams over the network from Twonky running on my Infrant X6 box with the latest 1.8 firmware upgrade which includes DNLA server support. HOWEVER it is particular as to which files playback and which don't. I don't think it is a network issue as much as the oddball TIVO extracted files. It streams my HDNET Derek Trucks band recording just fine over the network and looks super. I have asked dburchkh to see about updating his great TySuiteJ which the PS3 sees but I have yet to get any files to show up.

I just pulled down the 2.10 firmware. It seems to play the TySuiteJ Tivo files better. I can still see artifacts, but I would call it watchable.
The files I ran through VideoRedo still don't work, but the "straight" TySuiteJ ones do.
Supposabley it will play DVIX and VC-1. It still doesn't recognize XviD in AVI, but maybe in an mp4? The could revise my thinking of the PS3 as a media center.

I have not had much time to play since the update as Warhawk expansion pack has me playing on line a lot :_) I have seen a number of posts at AVS that the divx playback is working out pretty well for people. I'm hoping to find the correct tool set that is as little extra time and work as possible to get things playing on the PS3 reliably and at optimum quality.

I tried to remux a VC-1 HD DVD and didn't have any luck, but I did manage to play DixV.
When DTV cut my HD channels, I updated my Tivo because I assumed it was due to being way out of date. Like my usually updates it's going to require a Torx screw driver. :)
Due to this, I haven't tried TySuiteJ for a while.

I have a bunch of mpg files created with TysiteJ many months ago that I would like to playback using my PS3. I'm trying to use TVersity however all the HD mpg files result in "file corrupted" messages when I try to play them. I guess my question is does TySuiteJ work with the PS3?

TySuite J works fine with my PS3.
I spent some time and setup TySuite J and was able to access video's from my PS3. HD VOB's created using TyTool (long long ago) play but they are jerky. The mpg's created with TyStudio just result in a message that they are corrupted. I need to get my HR10-250 back on the network to see how HD files play when they are pulled from the Tivo.
It really is sad since the PS3 seems like it would be a fantastic media player... if only it liked all my tivo files. I'll keep plugging away and following the threads to see how things progress.

The PS3 has a lot of potential as a media center, but Sony is really slow to move forward. It gets better with each release.
If you turn those old media files through Project X DVB, they may play on the PS3.

Yeah, my PS3 doesn't like hd video from directv too well either. I've gotten the best results with mpg files mux'd with TySuite J out of any other programs I've tried like tytompg. I tried a file mux'd with tytool just to test and it was AWFUL. It seems to like files that originated on a SA tivo better than from a directivo. DVD's ripped straight to vob with DVD decryptor work great (OT I know).
If you turn those old media files through Project X DVB, they may play on the PS3.
I'll have to look into that.

DTV video is really a mess. They do stuff like stretch a single frame into a frame and a half to save bandwidth. Most players handle it, but the PS3 has some issues. It's getting better, but I still wouldn't call the PS3 a full media center.
