So, I have an eclectic collection of tools to do this, but I'm successfully burning HD-DVDs with no transcoding from my HR10-250.

The basic process is:

Extract .ty using TySuiteJ
Convert to mpg using tytompg
Edit out commercials with VideoReDo (under Parallels)
Patch (all) headers to 1080i with HDPatch (under Parallels)
Create an HVDVD_TS folder using MF6+ (under Parallels)
Burn the HVDVD_TS folder to a UDF disc with Disco

The end result is a disc that won't even play in my Mac, but that plays fine on my HD-A2.

As an added bonus, 480x480i is a perfectly legal format for HD-DVD, so SD content burned this way (skipping the HDpatch step) plays just fine, at least on the A2.

So, I could probably simplify this by using TySuiteJ to do the .mpg conversion internally, but I like to keep the 'raw' file around until I have a working finished product.

I'd like to get closer to a pure Mac workflow, but I don't see that happening with the current crop of tools. MPEG Streamclip isn't frame accurate, there's no equivalent to HDPatch, and DVD Studio Pro won't allow anything but a couple of HD resolutions for an HD-DVD.

There is a convert button in TySuiteJ you can use to convert the downloaded .ty files. I doesn't delete the source .ty file. In addition, you can add tytompg as a post processor and it leaves the .ty file in place.

I don't understand why the HD-DVD Won't play in your Mac, unless your using a G4 or G3, All InTel and G5 Mac's should play this Disc in the DVDPlayer.app, assuming your using 10.4.3(I think) and above.

If your using a G3 or G4, it's "Not Supported", but if this is a feature folks would like to have, I could probably find a "Hex Hack" for it.

On a G3 or G4 with an Nvidia GeForce 5200 or above, Mpeg2 Encoded HD-DVD's Played in DVDPlayer will be Hardware accelerated buy the GPU.

I don't know about Radeon GPU's, I think R9600 over better for HW accelerated HD Mpeg2 Playback.
