When did the "General TiVo Development" forum turn into the "Porn & Drugs" forum?

I think the spammers have found an exploit in the vBulletin software. The ones I've marked and reported to admins (via the red and white triangle icon above) have all been linked to those typical random-text click-fraud sites, used to generate click-thru revenue for the scammers.

I'd guess there's only a few possible solutions/suggestions:

1) Prohibit HTML links in new user posts (I believe TCF bans links until you have five posts)
2) Prohibit new-user posts until specifically green-lighted by a moderator. Not sure if vBulletin supports this.
3) Prohibit new users completely. :) Probably not viable at all.

The message spam has gotten bad enough that I've stopped coming here daily.

There are several ways to avoid this, and the Administrator should take a look into them...

A vbulleting module should be installed that asks for visual confirmation before doing a post (type some letters or numbers according to a image displayed).

There's also another way to lower spam, and is the referring IP address. Most of these messages are done automatically, and come from no referring page (ie, Post new subject, or post Reply).

A good swift delete would take care of that crap quick!

Deleting after the fact is a lot of work, and probably fruitless if these spammers are using automated scripts (likely).

The better solution is to try to block those *****s from succesfully posting in the first place.

It's driving real members away from this board.
