I have a hacked HR10-250 and can extract unscramble video to my pc using tytool 10. When I play the multiplexed video on my pc it plays fine for 30 seconds pixalates for a second and the audio also distorts for a second over and over. I notice that when tytool downloads the video the screen shows missing packets that are filled in and an attempt to correct. How can I get the video and audio to run smoothly? At the present time the video is practically useless.

Thank you.

Don't use tytool for muxing. Use tytompg or TySuite J.

Thank you very much as tytompg immediately corrected the problem and my ty videos now convert to mpg without a flaw.

I could not find instructions on how to install or run TySuite J to compare results. I know that it consists of many separate programs. Any help is appreciated.

Which program do you recommend to edit out commercials without complexity???

The installation instructions for TySuiteJ are in the \help folder. Specifically see readme.htm.

VideoRedo is the easiest to use thing I have seen for removing commercials.

Everything seems to be working great and my vcr will soon be in the garbage but how do I upload a ty file to the tivo and can the ty file be uploaded to any hacked tivo?

Thank you!

mfs_ftp is about your only option for insertion on an hdtivo.

Thank you for the response but I need a bit more instruction. Some of the mfs-ftp threads date back to 2003 so I do not want to screw up my present set up. Is there a tutorial?

I ftp'd into the tivo but could not find the folder which holds the recorded programs? Should I not be able to simply take a ty file recording off my pc and drop it into that folder for viewing on the tivo??

I am trying to learn.

No, no, no. You need to install and run mfs_ftp so that you can get ftp access to MFS, and not your root filesystem. Look in the newbie forum, there was a thread there a while back simply titled mfs_ftp that gave full instructions to install it. Look thru the last few pages of the main mfs_ftp thread for the latest patches.

Once you get it up and running, I'd recommend to make a tarball of your mfs_ftp directory and put it away somewhere for safekeeping, and an easy reinstall if you ever need it.

I found the thread at: http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21915
installation:

installation:

shutdown any previous version of mfs_ftp running in the tivo

unzip the mfs_ftp.tar.zip to mfs_ftp.tar on your pc

open mfs_ftp.tar & extract readme.txt - READ IT!

transfer mfs_ftp.tar to /var in the tivo

backup the old mfs_ftp dir: "mv /var/mfs_ftp /var/mfs_ftp.bak"

from the "/var " prompt unpack with

"tar -xvf mfs_ftp.tar" or "cpio -i -H tar -d -F mfs_ftp.tar"

start from bash "/var/mfs_ftp/mfs_ftp.tcl" or load from a startup script

I followed the instructions except I do not understand the upack the file from the var prompt. I opened the file but when I attempt to open the program from the bash prompt it cannot find it???

This is the thread I was referring to for installation info : http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52353&highlight=mfs_ftp
Check the thread you linked for the actual files. Some of the original install info in regards to patches is outdated, check the main mfs_ftp thread for the newest patches.

Mass confusion regarding install and operation of mfs_ftp. There are so many different instructions I can not make sense of it all. I just want to be able to upload ty or mpg video back into my HR10-250 or some other tivo. The instructions lack just enough detail to screw up this new member.

Give this one here (http://www.dvrpedia.com/MFS_FTP) a try .

I took your suggestion and tried the link. I installed everything as directed however I hit the wall on the last item namely to patch "./patch < mfs_ftp-20070717b-ya-pasv-fix.patch" it cannot find the file or directory even though it is present?? Also I tried to start over by deleting the entire mfs_ftp directory however it will not delete and simply reappears?? What a pain.

I finally got mfs_ftp installed as per the instructions. I started it running at the bash prompt and the cache folder of mfs_ftp as viewed with smartftp shows a list of .xml and .pts files with no captions. I am able to download to my pc but do no have a clue what to do with them. In other words I have installed the mfs_ftp but do not know how to operate it. Should I be in smartftp or at the bash prompt. Help

You need to ftp to port 3105. The default ftp is port is 21, so if you're actually looking in the mfs_ftp folder you created, you're connecting to the wrong port. You can download the videos as .tmf, .ty, or .ty+. If you want to convert .ty or .tmf files to mpg's, I'd recommend using tytompg.
