My husband and I received a call last week inviting us to a free vacation weekend...it sounds like a scam but I'm not sure. I don't even know how these people got my phone number. It was through a timeshare developer, I believe. I've heard bad things about timeshares but a good friend of mine has had one for years and raves on and on about it. I'm thinking the free weekend might give me a taste of whatever he's got.

A "timeshare developer" isn't going to just GIVE away a free weekend, they expect people to buy timeshares as a result. One of my co-workers has had a timeshare sitting on the resale market for months. Another just hired Timeshare Relief to transfer over the title because trying to sell it was such a hassle. My uncle bought his parents a timeshare for their anniversary and they've been barraged with dues ever since. Does this sound like a club you want to belong to?...Those are the kinds of risks involved with a "free" weekend.

I hate when you get those calls. I got a call after filling out a sponsor of a tennis match I went to. The information was very misleading about getting a new car. After complaining to the people who deal with the sponsors they apologized for being misleading. Companies are there to just collect information and get leads sometimes.

Bad idea DEFINITELY. Like some other people here explain, timeshare developers are mainly just after your money and are certainly not just offering you a free timeshare. My parents got burned really bad by the timeshare industry, and it all started with a postcard offering a free weekend. Yeah, well, it turned out that a timeshare is a major money suck with no usage ability. They wound up having to pay for Timeshare Relief to do a title transfer, which was more money, although they did get rid of it. If you can withstand hours and hours of high pressure sales then cash in on the free weekend, but if not I'd block that number!
Sorry, just a little passionate about this particular topic...argh...
