I don't suppose any of you would be willing to be so kind as to film a tivo prom socket job and post it up on youtube or something like that? No need to show the programming parts, just removing the prom and replacing it with a socket. I am pretty confident that I can figure it all out from there.

I've had experience with soldering along the lines of console mod chips (PS2 and xbox,) and *minor* experience with two sided TSOP removal (which is easy b/c you just lift one side and then lift the other,) but never four sided SMC.

I have a dead S2 Dtivo (fried PSU, haven't checked if the mobo still works but don't care to) that I am going to experiment on before I get cracking on modding something more expensive, say an old S1 Dtivo that I never use anymore but still works, and if that succeeds I'll work on something even more expensive which I don't even have yet.

Did you check the capacitors on these. I bet one of them is bad and bubbling up or even leaking. That was the problem with mine.

Found a guy who will replace the caps with the better japanese caps for $45. For now I have a secondary PS that I had from an old box and am up and running.
