operating mfs_ftp

There are many, many posts concerning installing mfs_ftp on a HR10-250 however there is little or nothing which teaches one how to actually use it after installation. In other words how do I extract and download video ty file from the tivo and more importantly exactly how do I upload it back into the tivo. Do I use a bash prompt or ftp, drag and drop or a command. I can easily download using ty tool and convert the file to mpg using tytompg but what about the reverse to convert a dvd or mpg file back to ty and upload.

I cannot be the only person who neds answers to these basic questions.
