View Full Version : Disable Yellow Stars tivoapp patch for 6.2?

I'm now in the process of ironing out the last few nags in my tivoapp, but have hit some walls:
1) I cannot find a tivoapp patch to Disable Yellow Star Promos for s/w version 6.2 for the Dtivo. I found this (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=159808&postcount=7) thread, which has tivoapp patches to disable yellow stars up to 4.0.1b, but not 6.2
I'm fearful that this may not be possible (or still unknown) on the 6.2 s/w version..
2) I'm a little confused about removing showcases. It doesn't appear that superpatch-67all removes the showcases on 6.2, unless the showcases in my menu are there from a previous download, and no new ones will show up, and eventually these will go away (or I can try to delete them with the method hayreass posted here (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=200793&postcount=3)). I found a link to 62sc.tcl here (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=232661&postcount=126), which rbautch says "adds and removes showcases for 4.x and 6.x Tivos." Reading the link to the file indicates that it was written to restore showcases, not remove. Can someone shed some light on what it takes to remove showcases and get them off of my menu?
3) Lower on the priorty list would be removing "Search by Title (Demo) from the Pick Programs menu and "Promo List" from the Messages & Setup menu after running superpatch-67all. AlphaWolf mentioned a "messy" way to do the former here (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=223101&postcount=28) but never disclosed how this was done. Anyone know about this? I can live with these, but #1 and #2 really have to go.
Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Oh I forgot, what does "Enable Backdoors" actually do?
EDIT2: Just caught my superpatched tivo recording showcases on channel 582, so apparently its still there...
Sorry for answering the last one first, but to fix menu items you need Superpatch67Standby.tcl (http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52048) . Be sure to read the support thread.

Thanks djl, this is quite helpful. In the support thread (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44308), I came across this (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=278888&postcount=87):
As for the "Showcases" and "Yellow Stars" I don't thik we can disable them this way. On the DirecTiVos you can remove them from the download group so they do not get on your system at all. If your TiVo calls in I'm not sure what you can do.
Anyone know what TivoWare meant by this..."remove them from the download group?" Eh?

I think by download group he means /State/ServiceConfig/DataGroupList in MFS. There's a post describing how to get SC & Yellow Stars back on 6.2 here (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?p=232338#post232338) so you might want to look at that for ideas.

If it finds existing showcase tokens, it will ask you if you want to remove them. Note that this won't remove showcases immediately from your menu, it only cuts off the download of new showcase tokens. It may take several days for the menu item to actually disappear.
edit: I can't remember if I ever posted it here or not, but the attached script only removes the showcase tokens. Use this one instead of the sc62.tcl script.

Thanks rbautch. Prior to your post I bit the bullet and went ahead and ran 62sc.tcl and discovered that it basically toggles the showcase tokens on and off. Nice work, I'm waiting for the menu item to go away.
So now everything has been addressed, except my #1 problem, yellow star promos on 6.2. No one wants to touch that one, eh? ;)
Did superpatch67-all take care of it, and like the showcases, its just going to take time for them to go away? Or is there a specific tivoapp patch I can apply? From my research, I've read some scattered, vague reports that might indicate that yellow stars are disabled on some people's 6.2 dtivos, but nothing concrete and nothing indicating how this was accomplished.

Will this work on a 649 DT with OS 8.1?
How do you use it?

You can get rid of the showcases and yellow stars instantly by following this post by AlphaWolf. (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30741)

Thank you whitepelican, that makes my day! :D I was beginning to fear for the worst...
...I haven't seen any negative impact besides the instant loss of Tivolution, Showcases, and the golden star from the tivo menu.
I didn't find this in a search because I only tried "disable yellow star" and the like, go figure. I had seen it called yellow stars in the tivoapp patch thread, so I thought that was the community jargon. Next time I will try to be more thorough.
Anyway, thanks again.

Well I ran the MfsRubbishTree commands on the directories in mfs that AlphaWolf listed here (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30741) and it got rid of the showcases and yellow stars, but only temporarily. It is still connecting at 2AM and downloading this crap, and I am greeted with showcases and yellow star promos in the morning.
I wrote a simple .tcl script to run the above commands and wipe it out again, and I guess I could just set up crontab to run every night at 3AM to wipe out the new download, but that's far from an ideal solution.
I was looking around in "System Information" in the settings menu on the tivo, and I found a lot of new info there since I applied superpatch-67all (I think this is what did it, not 100% sure, I've been tweaking a lot).
Anyway, there is a whole list of variables and true/false values at the end, and most notably were:
FPromotionAllowed: true
FRecordPromotionalUser... true
FRecordTiVoClips: true
FSchedulePromotionalUs... true
FScheduleTiVoClips: true
FShowcasesAllowed: true
If we could figure out how to change these values to false, it might do the trick. Its probably just a byte somewhere to toggle true/false, but where??
These look like mfs to my relatively inexperienced eye. Any thoughts?
It would seem that sc62.tcl (or sc62remove.tcl) didn't work. It reported that it removed the showcase tokens, but this did not prevent it from downloading new showcases at 2AM. Anyone have any luck with this script? Are there any other scripts out there to permanently remove showcases and yellow stars and prevent the tivo from downloading more?

The only time I've gotten showcases and yellow stars in the past was if I let my DirecTivo phone home for some reason. After running the sc62.tcl and using the MFSRubbishTree method the showcases and yellow stars stayed away. Of course, this is assuming that the phone line is unplugged. You don't have your phone line plugged in, do you? If you do, then unplug it ASAP.
The other thing, which I'm not sure if it is necessary or not anymore, is to have the "route" commands in your rc.sysinit.author. They will block the IP address so you don't connect to the Tivo mothership over the internet.

I'm connected only to a LAN with no internet connection. I have the
route add -net 204.176.49.0 gw 127.0.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
route add -net 204.176.49.2 gw 127.0.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
in my rc.sysinit.author but its moot since there's no internet connection.
Its getting this stuff from the satellite anyway.

This seems to be true, for one of my 2 DVR40's. I ran sc62.tcl to remove the showcase tokens, and then I deleted all of the directories in mfs with MfsRubbishTree, and it seems to have worked on one of them, but the other one persists with showcase downloads. Not sure why I'm getting inconsistent results, I'll try deleting the mfs folders first and then run sc62remove.tcl to try to get rid of the tokens, and see if it "takes" that way.
EDIT: Well after a few more days, and a few more tries running MfsRubbishTree commands and sc62.tcl, it finally "took" and no longer downloads Showcases or promos. So a little patience and persistence paid off.
