Is it possible to create a menu in the TiVo app to allow burning to an external usb dvdrw on the series2 DirecTiVo? I was thinking about compiling cdrtools and w/e else is needed.. If it is possible to do it without telnetting into the tivo and then issuing the cdrecord command (after i would install it)... Any ideas, or comments on this?

Fat chance.

No way. Most of the menu functions are located in TivoCentralDocument.brf, which is buried in mfs and requires the use of TuikHelper.tcl to extract. Once you do, you have to use a hex editor to see some of the menu names, but you're not going to be able to add your own custom commands to the tivo's menu, much less make them do anything useful.

At the very least you'd have to run the commands by telnetting in, but you're going to have major problems trying to get anything to compile on the tivo. You'd basically have to re-write the code for the tivo kernel. Good luck with that. Plus, you'd have to access the mfs partitions to get the show data read out, which requires knowledge of tcl and the tivo mfs functions. Stick to getting your drive hacked..

I'm waiting on FedEx to bring me my new DTV card, remember receiver i just got. I didnt think i should risk hooking it up for the 'initial call' without having the card from DTV in it. Unless you think otherwise.. :)
