I have had a Tivo for years, but nevere realized there was all this information out there. Probably the only reason I found this site is that Tivo help has scared me! My Tivo boots up and shows the "Powering Up" screen but then the screen just goes white. It doesn't matter what I do, the remore won't work and the green light is on with the Tivo emblem light. Tivo told me to buy a new Tivo, but I am afraid they just want me to spend more money. I currently have a 40 hour Series 2. Is there something I can do? Do you need more information?

More information is necessary, specifically the model number (do you have a series 2 or Series 2.5?), and the serial console (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?p=234467#post234467) output. With this information we have a fighting chance of identifying the problem.

It will take me a few days for the output, but I have a Tivo Series 2 TCD540040.

Good to know. This is a perfect example of why more information helps everyone. When you set the boot parameters, instead of 'console=2,115200', use 'console=1,115200' (I think - Jamie will tell everyone if I got this wrong.)

Chances are if you're getting the "Welcome, Powering Up..." message and nothing else happens your hard drive likely died.

Luckily, new drives are relatively cheap.
