I have a HDVR2 DTV Tivo that has started having this problem. I'll bewatching something and it will sporadically say searching for signal on sat 2. Or if I'm watchig something on sat 2 it will break up and pixilate now and then. It is becomming annoying. I think the tuner is bad in the HDVR2 unit. Can I find a new part to fix this, if so where and how much is it?

Is it a hard fix for a novice?

Thanks.

All the research I have done indicates it's not repairable except by replacing the unit.

One item to note is that the problem is worse if you use S-video. When I removed my S-video cable I got a few more months of normal operation until Tuner 2 finally died.

Just a thought - have you tried switching the tuner 1 and tuner 2 cables coming from the dish? The problem might be bad cabling.

I do use the S-video outputs.

I have switched the inputs and it is the second tuner not the cabling.

If I can find the parts at a reasonable price I think I will break out my soldering equip and try to fix it. I mean it isn't working now anyway so I really have nothing to lose.

Thanks for your input so far.

I've been having the exact same problem. Even more odd (to me at least), it only seems to effect certain channels. DIY=bad signal, FOOD=good, MSNBC=bad signal, etc. I wondered if it had to do with vertical vs horizontal LMB selection, but I have no idea which channels map to what.

I gave up on trying to fix it, and bought a cheap HR10-250 off ebay. Activated it this morning. Now I've just got to get it upgraded from 3.1.5....

I'm in the same boat with my HDVR2. I know it is the tuner because I did try switching the cables and the same tuner still had the problem. I think I'm using S-Video, so perhaps I will try switching to RCA to see if it helps. Short of that, perhaps I will try out U-Verse?...

I have the same problem on one of my HDVR2s. Also tried the cable switch to no avail. Ended up just replacing the HDVR2 with a used one from ebay and then upgraded it.
