Hi folks. I have a Hughes HDVR2. I was watching a recording this morning, all the sudden, the screen goes black and the light in front of the machine start to flash green and red. I uplug the machine, wait 15 minutes and plug in back in. It is the same thing. None of the remote or button work. I thought it might be the hard drive. I remove the upgraded drive and put in the original drive. It is the same thing again. Although the screen does say "Welcome. Powering up ..." but in less than 3 sec., it goes away and the button start flashing again. If I don't put any hard drive in, the button doesn't flash and it will just stuck in the "Welcome, powering up ..." screen.
Can someone tell me what's wrong with the machine? Directv tell me the machine is dead and I need to lease a new one from them. Please help.

Also, I have over 100 hours of recording on the hard drive, are they all gone now?

Thanks.

You've made a good start at troubleshooting the problem. It's not a hard drive problem. The next suspect is the power supply.

CAUTION!!! The caps in the power supply can store enough energy to give you a serious shock. ALWAYS unplug the power cord, and keep one hand in your pocket when working with the power supply. Look at the capacitors (the cylindrical components) on the power supply. There is one large one near the right edge of the power supply, plus several medium sized ones under the heat sink at the left side of the power supply. If any of these have a bulging top, it is bad, and could be causing the problem.
