View Full Version : Upgrading from 6.2 to 6.2a to fix DST issue, where is fixservice.tcl?

Although I have never upgraded a software version before, I was able to locate 6.2a slices, dbload them, install the correct update for my service number, and get everything working. However, this post refers to fixservice.tcl, and I cannot find it anywhere:
fixservice.tcl (fixes mismatch in software versions following upgrade, stops nightly reboots)...
...Run fixservice.tcl to fix the software version mismatch

A search in DDB only returns 2 posts referring to it, and a google search returns those posts and one post in the "other" forum referring to it.
It is not in AlphaWolf's S2 Binaries. Anyone know about this?

After doing some more reading on the issue, it seems that the 2AM reboot problem only occurs if the /State/ServiceConfig and /SwSystem/Active values are different.
I found a script on the other forum, called updateActive.tcl, and I edited it to just read out these values without modifying anything, and they were both 6.2a-01-2-321. I think they may only be different if you upgrade using the install62a.tcl script and 62a.tivo.diff.tgz, instead of dbloading the proper swsystem slice for your service number and running installSw.itcl (edited to prevent reboot).

I was always curious as to why Tivo created both active and alternate root/kernel partitions, and after completing the upgrade process I now see why.

Can I upgrade 6.2 with my copy of 6.2a app without running the slices? Menaing can I just do a copy?

you could if you copy over every changed file from 6.2 to 6.2a. IMO, it's better to just upgrade via slices.

Yes. This (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=343660) does pretty much that
