OK, let me just say up front - I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry!!!

I know this topic is covered ad nusium in this forum but I've been pouring through it for a month now trying to figure this out without success. I've tried the unscramble.o and playing the show for 10 sec then using TyTools to copy the show to my PC but I always get errors like the 10 blocks...

Can anyone point me to a How-To for Series 1 DTiVo with the latest software? For decrypting and for disabling encryption?

I would be eternally greatful!!!!

There is currently no means to decrypt shows that are already encrypted. You can, however, disable encryption for future recordings. Start by checking out this thread:

You may have to search for the tivoapp patch locations for version 3.5 for your series 1 DTivo.

Captain Video you said "There is currently no means to decrypt shows that are already encrypted.". Is this because the unscramble.o file is not up to date with the current Linux kernel? If this is correct I was thinking of having a programming friend look into it for me. But what is the latest kernel for series 1?

unscramble.o is the right tool, but as mscog says, there may be a problem with versioning. if the op's kernel is a different version than that expected by unscramble.o, it (the .o) should refuse to load. do a "cat /proc/modules" to verify that it's installed; if it is, look in the logs for messages (i believe unscramble.o logs the 'iscram', 'dscram' messages that show it's working).
