I have a GXCEBOT running 3.1 Xtreme with a 250 HD that I did a kernel hack on with the latest Tivoweb installed. I have always had reboot issues that were few and far between. They never really bothered me because they were so rare. Lately they have been happening more often and started to hang at 60% sat signal. Finally last night it happened again and it will not get pasted 60% not matter what I do.

My question is can I load a fresh image of 3.5 and it still be hackable? I use this tivo to extract shows for my kids to watch in the car. Or would I be better off loading Xtreme back on which would drive the wife nuts because she is tired of the whole hacking thing. I just want a stable system that I can take shows off of.

you'll have to apply some hacks to be able to extract. the xtreme method is pretty outdated now; if it were me, i'd do a fresh image and apply minimal hacks (nocso/superpatch plus extraction software) and go from there.

but then again, i never did the zipper, sleeper etc.; i prefer to know what i'm hacking. :)

I'd check the hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostics. It sounds like it may be on its way out. If the drive checks out OK then a clean install may fix the problem. You can hack 3.5 for extraction but you just apply a tivoapp patch instead of using a script to disable encryption.

Thanks I'll give it a try. I got 3.5 working on my original dive, but it too hung a 60% for a long time. I just need to expand it to a larger drive and will go from there. More reading here I come.
