First off, thanks for any help provided in advance..
I have been trying to find a way to upgrade my S2 dtivo (samsung 40-40r)
now for a couple of days with no luck. It is currently running 6.2a and I want it to upgrade to 6.2e. I do not have a phone line any where near the tivo and want it to update over the network. I have read several posts on how to get it to call the mothship over my network but nothing seems to work.
Could anyone give me a solid answer on how to get updates working over a network?
Thanks for any help!

DirecTiVos get the software upgrades over the satellite; it is installed by a phone call. AFIK, they can't get the information to install the upgrade over the internet.
There are two possible solutions. How far is it from the nearest phone jack? If you have a landline in your home, hook it up temporarily and let the phone call take care of it. If you don't have a landline you could take it to a friend's house where a landline is available - a dish connection is not required.
Alternatively, if it hacked, kicking off the upgrade manually is well documented; it's a matter of typing one command.

No. I think he might mean 6.3e. But I have no idea why anyone would want to "upgrade" to 6.3e from 6.2a, unless they have a desire to hack it to enable HME apps. Otherwise, 6.2/6.2a are probably the most stable and speedy software versions for the S2 DirecTivo, and I would never consider putting 6.3e on mine unless forced to do so.

Well after further reading you are completely right! I do not want to upgrade to (6.3e) I use MRV function and would lose that if I am understanding the things I have read properly. So I will just leave it alone and enjoy what I have now.
I was originally thinking you could have HME and MRV...would be nice but MRV is a staple of my household :)
Thanks for your time and help.

Action? You'll have to try Craiglist's W4M (or is it m4w?) if you want action.
