My hacked drive and now my original drive have failed for my DSR6000R. I ended up buying an instantcake.iso to get going quickly but I'm having problems getting the network going. Does anyone have an original back up that they would like to share so I can hack it the way I know how and I do not have to deal with instant cake? I know how to follow directions and get going on my own but instantcake does things differently and I cannot figure out how to get the networking going.

Instantcake just restores the image to your drive. You'll end up with a virgin unhacked drive that you will have to rehack from scratch. It's no different than starting with an original drive once the image has been restored.

If I hack it myself I know where everything is, sort of. I know enough to be dangerous and not enough to really dive into Linux to troubleshoot things.

Instantcake does not let you select Static IP for the cache drivers. Also, it seems there is some convoluted way to install Tivoweb. I tried to install TivoWebPlus 2.0 on my own and it worked for awhile and then just stopped. I can't get it going again. I don't know if there is anything interfering with TivoWebPlus 2.0 and how ever instantcake sets everything up. I have just follow directions in the past and have luckily not had any problems getting the programs running that I need to: elseed, TivowebPlus & decryption. Last night I gave up at 2am trying to get instantcake going and TivoWebPlus but I could not. I don't understand why when you install instantcake that you only can access the Tivo via FTP until you copy over a file called .NETREADY? Then you get telnet access? It seems like it is hard than it has to be. I used to just install the Cardcard drivers, follow Steve Jenkin's how to and put the programs that I need on without any problems or a need to troubleshoot stuff.

I think you've got Instantcake confused with the PTVNet installation CD. Instantcake does not install any hacks or scripts nor does it set up any networking functions. It's just an automated way of restoring a backup image to a Tivo drive.

That is not what I downloaded from dvrupgrade. Unless I got it from the wrong place.

From this link: http://www.dvrupgrade.com/dvrupgrade-support-center/?mod_id=2&id=115

Quote under the 5/14/06: "InstantCake for your Series1 DirecTiVo unit includes LBA48 support, large swap, and has been tested to run on drives as large as 500GB. InstantCake will build the equivalent of DVRupgrade NetReady replacement drive kits; these are drives with TurboNet and CacheCard drivers installed, as well as bash serial access enabled."

It definitely does have Network functions if it has TurboNet & CacheCard drivers installed. Then I read somewhere else that you should not use the Cachecard from SilconDust if you used the InstantCake CD.

That's very interesting. It appears that DVRUpgrade is marketing the equivalent of a 3.5Xtreme boot CD for series 1 DTivos. The addition of networking functions and the nophone hack is definitely something that wasn't included in the past.

Well, I finally started using my brain and figure out I had an unhacked DSR6000r in the house. My wife's, and I had to ask special permission to use it. If I killed that one she would have thrown me out (yes, the same women who questioned me 9 years ago why we need Tivo). I took and backed up her drive with MFStools 2.0. Restored it to mine. Added LBA48 support PVR free download. Added CacheCard drivers from Silicon Dust's driver CD. Followed Steve Jenkins how to and added telent, TivoWebPlus, elseed, ftp, etc... Modified my Tivoapp not to scramble the programs. Perfect. I was now up and running with an Error 51 :mad:

A quick search on this board say to do a clear and delete everything which is fine because there was nothing on the Tivo anyway. And I'm good to go.

InstantCake just seemed to make it difficult for me. I know it is suppose to make things easier but I guess I knew enough that I just couldn't accept the defaults that it want to set everything up at and I did not know enough to fix it or debug it when it went wrong.
