I would like to put my home movies onto my Series 1 DirecTivo. Is there a way to do this? I have searched the forums and have not found anything yet.

You could probably use ty-ffmpeg to convert your videos to ty format and then use mfs_ftp to insert them into your box. At least that's how I do it with my S2.

Are you able to do that because the series 2 has HMO? Or can I also do that with a series 1?

You don't need HMO to use mfs_ftp. Mfs_ftp works with Series 1, 2 and 3 tivos.

Thanks that is what I need. That points me in the right direction. I just need to use ty-ffmpeg to convert my movies to ty and then mfs_ftp to put the ty file on the DirecTivo. Off to do some more research.

I converted some movies with ty-ffmpeg and I have mfs_ftp running on my Tivo. But I'm not sure what directory I'm suppose to move the files I created. Should I put them in the ty or ty+ directory?

Upload them to the tmf dir.

Ok last newbie question: I should then be naming the file showname.tmf and not showname.ty, correct?
Thank you for your help.

Doesn't matter what it's named so long it is in the correct format.

I loaded mfs_ftp and I'm trying to transfer a big file to the Tivo (1 GB) and it keep losing the connection after transfering about 60 MB. Unfortunately, I only know enough to be dangerous and cannot troubleshoot what is wrong. I have read pages and pages of mfs_ftp and cannot find the solution. The only thing I have not done is apply the patches to mfs_ftp but it is unclear to me if those are just for series 2 boxes. Then I got side tracked with mfs_utils. Do I need these with mfs_ftp to put show on my series 1 Tivo? I can transfer small files back to the Tivo at this point but the large ones give connection errors.

adjust your ftp client to active and set the timeout to at least 60 if not 180s.
filezilla and smartftp work well. unless there are many shows on the tivo for an s1sa you don't need the patches or mfs_utils for insertion though mfs_utils greatly increase download speed not so much for insertion though. insertion can be sped up by disableing ideturbo and editing settings.tcl in var/mfs_ftp. Also tune to a blank channel and enter stand-by.
