Hi again everyone - been a while. Anyways, I am trying to fix my girlfriends tivo, it has been navigating really slow and crashing a lot - is there an equivalent to 'ScanDisk' to fix these errors? I attempted to attach the drive to my computer (and run the windows chkdsk -r -f, but the machine did not recognize that I had a drive connected)

If you all recommend that I just reformat, please guide me the right way, as I have no image file or backup (it worked for so long I just used the drive on a older, broken machine)!

Thanks in advance!

Stock answer: The usual cause of this is marginal sectors in the buffer area. Download the drive manufacturer's advanced diagnostics and run a low level non-destructive media scan on the drive. This will relocate those sectors.

Then put the drive back in the TiVo and hope it's brush with Windblows didn't trash the boot partition.

Many people use SpinRite from www.grc.com to fix drive errors.

You'll need a PC to hook the drive to internally (disconnect other drives temporarily).

The software runs on a bootable CDrom that will attempt to recover and then relocate bad sectors.
