How to "uncompress" the prom image?

I have read and read and still can not figure out how to do this.

I have a DT and have socketed the prom. I have read the prom and wanted to mod the prom image. I an find the "compressed" area, but I cant seem to figure out how to uncompress it. I have copied the compressed image to a new file and tried to gunzip it in cgywin and I get errors. Can smebody help me through this?

open the image in a hex editor. remove all the data from before the compressed image and save the remaining file as something like compressed.gz

I actually have tried that, naming it compressed.gz and get:

gzip: compressed.gz: invalid compressed data--crc error

gzip: compressed.gz: invalid compressed data--length error

Maybe I am editing the compressed image incorrectly. I use an editor and cut out the beginning of the image until I get to C91C, leaving C91C starting with 1F.

Well, I believe that my read of my prom is hosed. I also hosed the chip trying to read it. Now I am screwed. My tivo wont boot with the socketed prom now, and I dont have a good image to put on a chip. Is there some where I can get a non modded image of the original prom 1.06.3?

Any help is appreciated.

In my hex editor I calculated a MD5 checksum and its not the same.

I am convinced that I have a bad read since the checksum doesnt match the Master Prom Patch listed checksum. My gzip Signature: 1F 8B 08 is correct but the data must be flawed somewhere. So back to the drawing board. Anybody have a unmodded prom bin for the 1.06.3 prom? Or know where I can find one?
