I have a wierd problem with my zippered Hughes HDVR2.

Ever since I got it last year, it only had one SAT hooked up to it. When I would go to the Now Showing list, all of my shows would be there. If I looked in a folder and then tried to go back to the main list, it would clear and nothing would be there. I would have to wait a while and go back to the list for all the shows to re list. It would do the same thing no matter what I did that would take me away from the main list then back to it (IE. delete a show, start a show then go back). NOTE: It was set for 1 sat.

Now to get stranger, when the DSR708 quit working in the Living room, I moved the Hughes in there and hooked up both sats. Everything worked fine and to my surprise, didn't have that problem with the Now Showing list.

OK, quickly moving ahead some, I got a new DVR from Direct TV, moved the Hughes back to the office with one cable, hook it up and set it up for one Sat again. Surprisingly the Now Showing list works fine.

Then last night after getting my Phillips DSR fixed, I unplug the coax from the Hughes (did not unplug or turn it off), to test the Phillips. After making sure it worked, I hooked up the coax to the Hughes again, and lo and behold the Now showing list screws up again.

I have searched and haven't found anything about this on the forum. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening, or what I can try to figure out what is happening?

This is a DNS issue. A search for blank now playing list should give you more than enough information. Don't mention the zipper here. Its author request that no one do so several times and it has nothing to do with your issue.

Won't mention it again.

Did a search and at least am on a path to getting it figured out. Thanks jt1134

It's looking up DNS information which it won't find unless it's connected to the internet. It will just search and search and eventually timeout, which is when the show listings reappear. I believe you can make some small mods to /etc/nsswitch.conf to get around this issue.
