View Full Version : Network Tools Slow to Respond

I recently networked my two identical (same exact software, disk drives, and configurations) series 1 TiVos by installing Turbonet cards and connecting them wirelessly to my home network via ZyXEL ethernet bridges. The units now make successful daily calls without fail over the network.

I also added telnet, ftp, and TivoWebPlus/Hackman to var/hacks/{subdir} and launch all three from rc.sysinit.author.

My problem is that all three network apps (above) respond sporadically. For example, I can't always get TivoWebPlus to come up. I have to keep trying again and again in the browser (I wait ample time to allow the process to initialize before trying). Then, suddenly, everything works for awhile. A few minutes later, it stops responding. The same with telnet and ftp. Sometimes I can access via telnet but typed letters take several seconds to echo back. One of the tivos only has this problem every few hours, the other is far worse, exhibiting these symptoms several times an hour. This occurs when connecting from different PCs also. Yet, daily calls don't seem to be affected.

I suspect problems with the ethernet bridges, but was hoping someone out there in cyberland might have some ideas (configuration, changing process priorities, etc ...).

My thanks for any assistance.

Update: The problem IS being caused by the ZyXEL ethernet bridges. They apparently don't work well together in combination with my WRTG54S (tomato) router. Removing power to either allows the other to work fine, and response time normalizes.
