View Full Version : How to circumvent test call on R10?

The annoyances I'm experiencing with this friggin' R10 unit I bought to replace my DVR40 keep mounting.

I've done a complete reset of the unit, and married my access card to it (geez, that was a nightmare and a half with the DTV reps).

My current gripe is that I can't record anything because it wants to make a test call. Everytime I try to record a show or setup a season pass, it takes me to the friggin' test call screen.

The problem is...I don't have a landline in my house.

The geniuses at DTV all swear there isn't any way to get around this test call requirement, and that I can either haul my unit over to another customer's house and use their phone line, or they can lease me an R15 with a 2-year commitment.

Someone please tell me there's a way to bypass this shit using the remote...?

You can bypass it by running fakecall, but you'd have to hack the box first. Otherwise, connecting to a landline temporarily is unfortunately the only way.

Do you live in an apartment/condo? If so temporarily borrow a neighbors phone line late at night by jumpering your block to their block in the MPOE

Reminds me of a time when I was travelling around the country with a ReplayTV. I used to set it up in the ExtendedStay efficiency apts. I used to stay in for about four weeks at a time. I stayed in a different place in Fla one time that had one of those funky digital phone systems and the Replay couldn't dial out to get the guide data. I just took the box into work once a week and let it dial out from there. It was a nuissance but it worked just fine. I'm sure you can find an alternate arrangement to let your DTivo make the initial phone calls if you put enough thought into it.;)
