Hey all,

I'm having an issue with my TiVo upgrade. I followed the Hinsdale upgrade guide exactly and everything seemed to go well. Both drive sizes are reported properly and mfsbackup/restore reports success. I added the -s 127 switch to increase the swap size as recommended.

With the new 250GB drive in my TiVo the menus have either black backgrounds now or show the "live" TV video.

Also, I cannot access any of my saved recordings, although new recordings are working.

What's going on? Is there a simple fix? I have a S2 DirecTivo (Philips DSR704) and the new drive is a Seagate.

Thanks!

It's a common problem. It's generally referred to as the 'transparent bckgrounds' problem. The backup did not contain some of the background loopsets. There are three solutions.

I usually suggest starting over with the original drive. Copy all contents of the original drive to the new drive. The is DOES take some time.

In this thread (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=224111&postcount=2) Jamie describes how to determine the proper parameters to make a backup which contains all required information. Again, this requires using the original drive, but is much faster.

This thread (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42465) has instructions for extracting the missing loopsets from a working drive and inserting them into your new drive. This requires both systems be hacked, but has the advantage you don't have to pull a drive.
