Ok, you are going to think i'm a bit of a twit about his, well I think i'm an bit of a twit about it, anyway, I edited my rc.sysinit file on my mac and ftp'd it back to my tivo (oops) Yes I know I should have used rc.sysinit.author, but it was late at night and I wasn't thinking properly. When I re-booted I got no tivo, just a powering up notice.
Luckily I'd backed up the original rc.sysinit file (no weird windows line returns on this file!!!!)
So I unplugged the drives from my tivo. Downloaded Mfstools 2.0 cd and booted up.
(only tivo drives and cd rom in pc)
I booted with vmlnodma hda=bswap hdb=bswap so I saw the partitions boot up ok (14 on hda and 4 on hdb). I then did bootpage -p /dev/hda and got a return of root=hda7.
Fabulous. I thought. then...
mkdir /mnt7
mount /dev/hda7 /mnt7
and I got /dev/hda7 Input/Output Error
!!!!! I don't understand. It was all fine, just one wrongly written file!!!
Can anyone tell me how I can mount this partition to replace my rc.sysinit file with the backed up one? I can mount a dos disk ok and a floppy with the backup file on, just not the tivo drive.
I've previously upgraded the tivo's HDs and added an ethernet card, so I've mounted the drive before and installed tivoweb etc etc, so I know it should work.
It's 1.30am now, so If I've missed something obvious then, sorry. HELP!!
