With out knowing all the specifics but just throwing ideas out there...

With the new Video on Demand from Dave coming through the internet, we could sniff the packets or intercept the packets and use these for a kind of extraction method.

All you network experts and network hackers out there what do you think

It would seem to me grabbing the HDMI output would be more effective.

But that's encrypted too with DHCP.

The HD PVR model 1212 from Hauppauge seems to be able to capture using the component video output and accepts optical or stereo audio input.

True, though it isn't shipping yet. However, this thread is about capturing the video as a digital file without going through a decode-encode step.

The idea too is not having to do a live (having to play the show) transfer. If the file is already in the DVR just transfering or copying to other medium so it can be processed copied, edited, etc.

I could not agree more since I use a 1TB WD ESATA on both of my HR20-100s and still keep the HR10-250 active for downloading shows and turning the TYs into MPEGs to watch on the HR20-100 with TVersity. MRV would be nice.
