I got an tivo.bak image and installed it on a 120gig hard drive and after activation from tivo, I only have 6.5 hours regular quality and 21 at basic quality. When I took the hard drive, I put (hda1)/boot as (hda2)10 meg, /swap as 512meg and (hda3)/ as 119.3 as root I used types 83 for boot and root and 82 for swap.

I used mkstoos-2.0 restore -i then my devices. it installed great no errors.

It now works flawlessly, just I was excited for more than 6 hours! My brother is a master at these things and told me to stop at 120gig as anything greater is wasted on a series one.

I'm a linux administrator and I get cocky, I had to have missed something but I cannot figure out what.

you missed -x (expand)

;)

also, you could use a kernel like the ones found here (http://www.courtesan.com/ftp/pub/TiVo/kernel/) for drives > 137 gigs.

OH, thanks. Can I back up my image now, and restore it back??? It has been grinding for 6 hours and is activated and WORKING. can I just do a msktools-2.0 backup and then a msktols-2.0 restore from my present image and use the -ix and save my work and activation? I remember the screen is it expaned to 907 megabyte.

Oh I was just back to the link you gave. I have a series one, actually a phillips HDR312. I saw several images. what all can be done to upgrade this thing. I already read how to go in the serial port with a terminal screen. I've got to go to radio shack and get a ir led. does anybody have a schematic for the ir port?

you should be able to. since it doesn't appear the image has ever been expanded I don't see a problem. just make sure in your restore command you use -xi ('i' points to the location of your backup image).

thank you thank you thank you.... I will work on it this weekend, I spent all of today putting a new hard drive in my laptop. 160 gig!!! it has a 20 meg flash card betweeen the platter and pc! Unfortunly samsun does not provide a "ghosting software" so I have been beating my head above the wall.

getting to point thanks for the help. I will try it this weekend
