what is the latest update of this drive?

:rolleyes: Which drive? Both Samsung and Maxtor are mentioned in this thread.

Latest update? Do you mean the current price? Check www.frys.com and you will see the latest online price. Or did you mean the latest version? Check the manufacturer's websites.

What is the best brand?

Well, Western Digital drives are 'Green' (environmentally friendly), so they must be the best. Of course, W-D drives have only a 3 year warranty. Seagate drives have a 5 year warranty, so they must be the best. On the other hand, Samsung drives sell for less, so they are the best if you're pinching pennies. However, Hitachi drives were designed by IBM, the oldest name in storage technology, so they must be the best. Of course, Maxtor drives have an impressive name, so they must be the best.

Whatever you do, don't buy any hard drives from the following manufacturers:

Atasi Corp., Cogito Systems, Computer Memories Inc., Conner Peripherals, Conner Technologies, Control Data/Imprimis, Digital Equipment Corporation, Epson, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Integral Peripherals, International Memories, Iomega, JT Storage, JVC, Kalok, Kyocera, LaPine Technologies, Micropolis Corporation, Microscience International, MiniScribe, Ministor, Mitsubishi, NEC, PrairieTek, Priam Systems, Quantum Corporation, Rahm Rotationals, Rodime, Storage Technology Corporation, Syquest, Tandon, Texas Instruments, Tulin Corporation,
