View Full Version : SAT T60 Stuck in Update

Wow, I guess you know it's time to upgrade when the forums get so quiet. Sadly, with all the "digital" changes and the such I don't know which way to jump. I've been playing with MythTV. I'd really like a central video server. Then the choice of Comcast (local cable, probably going all digital) or DirecTV would be less important. Oh well, I digress. Someday I do need to find the proper forum to discuss such things.

I have a fairly old SAT T60 which is running well. It has two hard drives. It's running 3.5c-01-1-011. I used to do the kernel patch for descramble but now use the "other" method, and sadly can't remember the details. It's been that reliable and running that well. I don't really have many changes on the machine. Just the descramble option and then TyServer/TyTools to archive or store some shows.

Recently, in the past couple of weeks, it seemed like every time I pushed the Tivo button I'd get the little startup cartoon. The unit is working fine other than that. However, when I go into the system status it says it's in the middle of an update and nothing can be touched. Hey, maybe this is a good thing and it's preventing 3.5d. :-)

Should I be worried about this? Any thoughts on how to fix it? Should I fix it? If not, is there anything I can do to stop the ?nightly? reboot or reset, whatever is setting off the intro screens?

TIA,

It's rebooting at 2am each night in an attempt to install new sw, probably 3.5d. You can either install the update and rehack (tivoapp patches for disabling encryption are around here somewhere), or change the /State/ServiceConfig/SwSystemName back to 3.5c and rubbish 3.5d from mfs if you don't want to upgrade.

Thank you jt1134.

I'll probably go in and disable the update. Seems weird that it's not able to complete the update, but at least it's not hurting anything.

Thanks again.

If you have upgradesoftware=false in your bootpage or rc.sysinit, then each time 2am comes around and it reboots, it sees that and doesn't initiate the upgrade. You can just remove that variable, or initiate the update manually by invoking /tvbin/installSw.itcl. See this thread (http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39866) for some example code to stop the reboots without updating.
