The Airlink 101 ASOHOUSB is a usb2.0 10/100 adapter using the ever popular Asix AX88772 chipset. It works with Tivos, your Nintendo Wii and lots of other embedded devices.
MANY adapters use this chipset and they are well supported under most any OS.
Edit: Two ninety nine is the final price before tax.
VERIFIED WORKING WITH NO HACKS. I have an S2 Tivo that was CADE and updated to 9.3 over the weekend. Today I connected the above mention adapter and powered the system. I then noticed a new message
Subject: Now using network instead of phone
From: Your TiVo DVR
Date: Wed 7/30
An Ethernet adapter was detected and automatically set up.
The Tivo DVR no longer needs to use the phone line to
connect to the TiVo service; it will use the Internet instead
(Message #87)
Can't get much better than that!

I think you have a typo in your title. They're $12.99 unless I'm missing something. It's a great adapter even at that price; I've got a couple. AFAIR though they need backport drivers to work in tivos which requires hacking; not a problem for most here. ;)

Nope fortunately it was NOT a typo! $2.99 each. I bought three!

Is that a web price, or brick and mortar? If it is a web price, how about a link? This (http://shop1.frys.com/product/4415686) is the closest I've found, and it's $12.99.
By the way, these should work with recent stock tivo software. It's listed here (http://www.tivo.com/setupandsupport/networking/All_Wired_Network_Adapters.html) as ASIX AX88772 and supported with TiVo Software Version 7.2.2 or later. Not sure what the status is with dtivo software versions. Those may still require the backport drivers.

In store price. The website, although sharing the same name, rarely follows the same promotions.
I connected one to my laptop and verified that the current stock is in fact an Asix chipset :)

I stand corrected. Question though, maybe a bit OT but are these ASOHOUSB's using a different chipset (Asix) compared to older ones? I bought mine 12-18 months ago and I thought I had to use the backport drivers.

I see the device in the stock usb.map in 9.4:# AX88772
product 0b95 7720 ASIX AX88772 deviceThat matches the vendor/product codes on my ASOHOUSB, although mine is several years old now.
On a 6.x dtivo, you probably do have to use the backport drivers, unless they've updated usbnet in the more recent versions. I don't see it in the last version I have handy: 6.3a.

The chip hasn't changed AFAIK. Are you running with software 7.2.2 or above? 7.2.2 came out in Spring 2006.I think I just assumed from the notes in the 'usb.map.additions' file in the bp distro. I've migrated to a S2DT and an TivoHD since then so my ASOHOUSB's are in cold storage. I still have an active S2 (2400040) with an FA120 so I haven't played with the Airlinks in a while.
Thanks for the clarification though.

The price was so good I grabbed an extra unit. Looks like nothing has changed on the hardware side. This is what I see when connected to my laptop (with the latest drivers)
