View Full Version : Calibration images - How to get perfect copies on the Tivo

I just got a new display. I used various test images (including Video Essentials) to adjust it properly. I would like to calibrate it properly to the Tivo.

I would like to get the SMPTE bars, a low average picture level pluge and a high average picture level pluge in either images or mpegs then transfer them to the Tivo unmodified. Can you suggest a source?

Secondly I don't own TivoDesktop. Could I use PyTivo and somehow instruct it not to modify the material during transfer?

Thank you for the offer but I would rather have uncompressed 720p/1080i original images.

The images on the DVD are compressed MPG2 format. Converting them from VOB to MPG doesn't change the compression at all.

You are right. Maybe I can take the same files from Video Essentials. I am trying to track down compatible test images that show the resolution ability. There are many configuration options and some of them seem to lower the picture quality.

Do you have any advice on how to convert uncompressed HD YUV files? So far all of the tools I've tried to use to convert them to a format the Tivo would accept have crashed.

Sorry, I don't know anything about YUV formats.

ImageMagick (http://www.imagemagick.org/script/index.php) can convert to/from a variety of raw YUV formats.

This (http://www.belle-nuit.com/testchart.html) may be a good HD test chart image.

The inhd broadcasted test patterns are pretty good if you have that recording. The patterns are 1920x1080 unlike the hdnet test patterns broadcast via directv that were only 1280x1088.
I posted a thread http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44243
about using ffmpeg to generate test pattern mpeg from stills. The same general procedure probably works with TTCB.
You could theoretically rip the video essentials blu-ray and make .mpg out of some of their test patterns. Last I tried ffmpeg's .m2ts support was a bit buggy and had trouble with the stills...

Here are some SD test videos. I used them with PyTiVo and a TiVoHD
