Fun with URL's to download streams off a HR21

I was able to use windows media player to get the stream ID from the recordings on my HR21 and simply modify the URL to get it to actually download the entire file to my PC.

Im not sure how beneficial it is but at least getting the files off of a HR21 is easy enough.

I used WMP to connect to the remote library on my HR21. Select and right clicked on properties on the recording name. I got a URL like this.

I just changed "playback" to "download" and removed all the junk after the stream ID. Here is the corrected URL based off the one above.

I pasted the modified URL into firefox and it grabbed a 2.1 Gb file off the HR21 without any issues.

I wonder if there are any tools out there that can convert or unencrypted the video into something playable. Any thoughts?

You will have to mouse over the complete URL since the forums automatically truncates web links. Grr!

Do you know that DirecTV offers a free application (DIRECTV2PC (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=165127)) to stream programs from the HR2x?

This seems to offer some interesting opportunities beyond DIRECTV2PC and Music, Photos & More. Items to consider include:
Is it possible to insert recordings?
Once a video is transfered to a computer can it be recoded so it can be saved to another DirecTV HD-DVR?
Can a video be decoded so it can be burned to a DVD?

I just used the included version of Windows Media Player in Win7.
My Direct TV HR21 receiver shows up an a "Remote Library" I will attach a
screen shot to illustrate in a bit.

Bill, Im sure there are lots of enthusiast who are far smarter than me who could figure
out how to make this video playable. At least now we dont have to phsyically remove the HD grab the video data.

Does anyone know if the structure and encryption method of dtivo
TY files and the files on the HR-2X are the same?

There is a method that allows to unencrypt TIVO files with the appropriate "Media Access Key". I wonder if the HR2X series have a similar mechanism.
I mean the PowerDVD software can unencrypt them for playback.
