I have a HR10-250 that is unhacked that has a golf tourney on it that i would like to get a HD copy of. After some reading it sounds like this is possible with removing the drive and installing in a PC with Linux. If so is there a guide somewhere that will explain this? Or is this not even possible? Im sure someone out there has tried this and yes i know if it was hacked first I could do this easily. But Im doing this for a friend who had no interest in Tivo hacking and is totally computer illiterate. Im however have some experience in this. Just not this exact issue.

You need to remove the encryption first. Simply pulling the drive won't help you. You would have to hack the TiVo, disable encryption and then remove the encryption on each program you want to extract. This would also pretty much require a network adapter. A lot of work for just one program.

This thread (http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39207) describes the "unscramble" tool that provides this function.
