I finally got around to installing my DSR6000 with the 25xtreme image. I did the straight 25xtreme build with 2 100G maxtor drives on the secondary IDE controller. Zero problems after I got the right BIOS from award and the right cable.
The Directv is reporting 185 hours. I have paid subscriptions for both DirectV and Tivo, so I did not do the "touch" thing.
The entire theater is controlled by a PC which issues all IR in response to commands from a ProntoPro remote. The biggest battle I had was getting the SA Tivo and the Directv units to accept and keep the remote unit codes of 1 and 2 (standard is 0, which causes the system to work with any remote code whatsoever (0-9)) so I could use two different remote unit codes from the PC, one for each unit with no interference. It appears to be working as it should be.
The PC has a test and setup mode with a small terminal emulator written in VB (the whole system is written in VB) which deals with the Directv serial port. The bash prompt was there on the first shot. All I had to do to see it was hit enter and have that sent to the DirecTV. It accepts Linux commands, all I tried was "ls" which listed some stuff so now I have to learn Linux.
Thanks to everyone on the board.
For the newbies: It really does work and it works just as advertised. Just run 25xtreme to your drives and put them back. If you are not trying to beat the $$$ and have paid subscriptions there does not appear to be any problem with the phone line connected.
Once again thanks to ALL.
My field of expertise is IR. I have all of the codes for the tivo remotes including Guide and display and can supply them for several IR emitting/learning devices (e.g. Pronto, ProntoPro, ADI leopard, Nirvis Slinke) if you need them drop me a PM
