Anyone have a good source to buy Direct Tivos where they don't make you sign a contract? Thanks in advance.

Circuit City (open box) no access card, everything else new .. $89.00 cash and carry.

Not all stores allow this, i tried 2 other locations and they still required a contract even though the units were open box.

You never know, you may get lucky at CC

It is my understanding that Crutchfield sells without contracts. I purchased a T-60 there last week, but have not received it yet. I asked the sales associate about contracts, and he said he was unaware of any such contract on any receiver they sell.
Also do a search for contracts on the forum and there are other posts that Crutchfield does not require one.

CC wanted credit card info from me for my cash & carry SAT-T60. I gave them bogus address info and a card that expires this month that I'm not renewing :D

Crutchfield has them for $399.99+$200.00 rebate, but only if you activate you will get that rebate.. ohterwise no

$399.99 is a little too much for a T-60 with no contracts

that's my 2¢'s

ps: i'd go with ebay or some open box deals, the most i paid for a non contract unit was $150.00 (GXCEBOT) and it came with an Hu card, the other for $89.99+tax(DSR-6000) with no Hu card

I did not see anywhere on the rebate that it required activation.

Now and then you can find a dumb sales person.
Tweeters has been known not to get a valid credit card and accept cash. You can give them what ever name and address you desire.

There is a copy of the Sony rebate form located here.
http://www.tivo.com/images/sony_rebate.pdf
After a quick perusal of the document, I can see no mention or justification that the rebate will not be given without a DTV or Tivo sub. Only a statement that subscriptions to DTV and Tivo are needed to get full functionality out of the T60 receiver.
