ATA66 or ATA100? 7200rpm or 54rpm? Maxtor or western digital?

They all work.
160 gigs aren't supported by the current TiVo IDE drivers.

5400 supposedly generates less heat.

Well, they are supported...but the IDE drivers only recognize the first 137gigs. At lot of money to gain 17gig more than a 120.
