Im in charlotte and working on it to see what channels we get. raliegh is not on the 101 bird, so i dont think we'll get that without the elyptical dish. for the time being you can use the Atlanta though- we are in the same spot that includes clt, atl, greensbore, and greenville. I was hoping to get nashville or dc, but no luck yet. we are definelty on the fringe of another spot though- when i have been testing local bytes, occasionally I get a channel and transponder with a 40-50 signal strength on some of the 0-99's and everything else is 90 or better.
All of the locals are now on the 101 birds since "spot beem".

I can't speak for the 110 sat or any of the non-"Carolinas" spot beams, but the Raleigh-Durham channels are not being broadcast on the 101 Carolinas Spot beam.
The channels are listed in the guide, but there's nothing on them...

DirecTV-1 @ 110 is now completely empty, and all locals are gone from 119.

Hmmm,
According to what I've found on the web, the Raleigh-Durham stations are broadcast on the "Carolinas" spot-beam on Transponder 28.
I get a good signal strength (>85%) on all the transponders related to the "Carolinas" spot-beam (20, 12, & 4). But I get 0% on transponder 28.
Heck, I can even pull the Atlanta stations from Southeast Spot on transponder 26...

I think we are nearr each othe at least sort of. I can get the Atlanta stuff and some from Ten. I guess I am a little more stupid than I thought because I have had problems trying to create a locals dat. I don't want to dork the system fingering around when I don't know for sure what I am doing. If I could get a good Carolinas dat I would be real happy.
Hope you have a good one, hogwarts

Hogwarts-
Sorry been traveling and hadn't had much time to screw around with channel.dat. Plus I havent had any success changing the local byte with command line switches & emu(even with spending limit at $350). THe only way i have been able to change the local byte is by entering the corresponding decimal number in the spending limit and waiting- not the most efficient. I get Greensboro, Greenville, Charlotte, & Atlanta no problem- all show up on 900's on 4th gen with the CLT guidebyte. (Haven't tried Raliegh local byte yet) I assumed these were on one spot. I could not tune into Nashville(which I really would like a central time set of locals), but I was trying DC, and an Annapolis Maryland Channel came in with a signal strength of about 45-50.(Everything else on my sat is 85-100). After looking closer though, I dont think this was a Maryland channel, but it does suggest that Charlotte is on the edge of another spot. Question is which one.
So what i read above suggests that Atlanta and Charlotte are not on the same spot- can anyone confirm this?

Hogwarts- where exactly are you in Western NC. Have you tried to get any of the Ohio locals?

No, I haven't tried them yet. I am near Asheville and have tried to get the Greenville locals to pop up on the guide but they don't want to ... I have tried the spending limits too but they don't seem to work, I must have something wrong.
