Anybody have an issue with boot up taking a very long time after "mvchannels" get's loaded?

I notice it's the other day and I did a kill as soon as I got my BASH back. Then I reloaded it.

I've been at 90% for about 15 mins.

Is this normal?

Thanks,

Rayjet

Change your -sdelay from 3 to 4 (or 5 even better). That delays the start of moving channels until after things settle down.

Yes, this is a big thing and has been discussed in several other threads.

I saw where someone said to change the delay and I will, but does it ever complete at delay=3....? It's been stuck on 90% for 30 mins or more.

-delay sets the delay between loops.

-sdelay sets the startup delay, the time it waits before beginning execution.

I suspect it will, but it all depends on how big your channels.dat file is.

LOTS of stuff happening right during bootup. If you have bash enabled, you should have a prompt. Edit the rc.sysinit, change the -sdelay, save. then:

restart

to reboot the whole thing...

I change from mvchannel v1.34 90% CPU usage to v1.32 13.6% or less with this version.

Try this post (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=24102#post24102)

After doing the mod, it completely solved my problem.

by the way, could you tell me how to determine the CPU usage at bash?

Thanks.

BD,

I don't know how these guys are getting cpu usage, would like to know.

Additionally, I did incorporate that mod over the weekend. I better take a look at it again because I did it with "Edit" and I've had some issues with Edit vs Joe.

Take care

Ray,

Personally, I still think downloading the file to windows and then converting from unix to windows format and then edit it from there is the SAFEST way to do it.

By the way, Edit = Joe, Edit is just aliased to Joe (much like DIR, there is NO dir in linux, but someone aliased it to "ls")

Joe gives me problem everytime when I try to run it via my terminal program. The line is always screwed up and seems to be one line off all the time. I have trouble realizing which line I am editing of if I am EDITING an EMPTY line cuz' it will appear that a certain line exist but if you try to move the cursor at that line, it will be overwritten by "space".

That's my 2 cents worth. I never had any problem w/ converting it to windows format and editing it. Maybe it is worth for you to try.

But don't get me wrong, Joe could be a great tool, but just not via a terminal program.

BD,

Set teraterm to 25 lines before you use joe.

Actually, installing vi is my best advice. Of course I have been using vi for like 18 years... So I kinda know what I am doing in there.

is HyperTerminal ok? cuz' I have been using that I guess....

While we are here, I got another question..

when u transfer a file via TerTerm, do you click on "BINARY"? I tried transfering file once w/ TeraTerm but it just sits there at 0%. cuz' I was in the middle of something, so I switched to what I know..which is HyperTerm.

Well, I think under file, there is a transfer, option, then select zmodem, then either send or receive.

Remember that you need to either 'rz' or 'sz <file>' from the bash prompt before you fire up the transfer in tera term.

I am not sure if 25 lines in hyperterm works for joe. But all the experts say, "use teraterm, hyperterm sux." So I do.

Hope that helps.

To send a file to the tivo.

Change to the directory on the TiVo you want the file to be transfered to.

Then

File
Transfer
zmodem
send

Browse to the file you want click on it

To upload a file from the tivo

bash# sz <filename>

File
Transfer
zmodem
Recieve

Ok, I am trying to switch over to Tera Term and I can connect and everything but I could never get Joe to work right...If I could get some guidance here I would REALLY appreciate it.

I am running TeraTermm 2.3
and I set the display to 80X25 and it still doens't work for me. Is there other settings? such as terminal emulation and such that I need to tweak to work right?

Thanks. :)

BD,

When you first start it up you select, Under new Connection, serial and the com port. You should then get a blinking cursor. Do you have that?

it is working now...but I am still not sure when you transfer a file via Zmodem, do u enable the BINARY or not?

Where does it ask for binary? When you are browsing looking for the file to send?

TheBigDog

File -> Transfer -> ZModem->Send

It has that BINARY option at the bottom.

BD,

I never even noticed that Binary option, mine's checked and I don't remember changing it and it works.

Glad to see you have it working....
