burned a bootable copy of 25xtreme last week, got my tivo in yesterday, ran 25xtreme on the 30 gig and a spare 40 gig I had, it makes it to 99.94% finished, then "cannot continue--process ended" I read on here that lots have that problem when burning with NERO, I did, so I went back to 25xtreme and tried to figure out how to run Madtivo, I figured out how to ls and cd to look around the cd, I dont know anything about linux and am trying to figure it out as I go, but I dont see any executable files (that look executable to me anyway I know dos) looked around in all the dir. and sub dir. I think, couldnt figure out how to start madtivo manually since 25 xtremem wouldnt do it automatically.
next I tried to go back and burn another copy of 25xtreme and make sure I checked "disc at once" some said in another thread if you do that then NERO does ok with 25xtreme, made 5 coasters so far and I aint getting any closer I dont think, when I use the wizzard, click bootable cd select the 25xtreme image it burns then in exporer, the cd shows to be empty, last time I did it by going to "file" "burn image" now when I do that it simply places the file 25xtreme.iso on the cd doesnt burn the image just the file. What the heck am I not doing to get a good copy that I did yesterday???? I can not figure out what I am doing wrong.

hope you can help, my tivo is in pieces and till I get 25xtreme to continue and run madtivo or figure out how to start it manyally its kind of depressing....

thanks for any help I get

You need to burn an ISO image...not burn the ISO file to a disk. I also had a terrible time with NERO, and ended up using plain old "EZ CD-Creator".

Also make sure the machine you are running xtreme in has enough memory...128meg I believe...

Don't use Nero!

And try again.

You said you read about problems with Nero, Why are youn using it?

well cause I'm running XP and even with all the updates and patches for the latest greatest EZ CD platinum (have to d/l two patches, one upgrade and one patch just for XP) EZ CD is still CRAP with XP, so I uninstalled it, it and XP just dont play well together, cause of MS liscensing its cd burning software from adaptec. I have wincd, heard it does real good for burning bootable cd's for 25xtreme, but since I got my 24 speed cdrw a couple of months ago it says it cant find my cd burning, have clonecd but it only burns from images with the correct extension, can only burn images it creates more or less. at the moment its raining sleeting snowing and blowing here and I'm in the country and my phone line sucks so I cant go and get the latest version of wincd till at least tomorow if then, (last time I dialed in it said I was conected at 12.0 k, not my ussual blazing 21.0 k :) so appears for now I'm stuck trying to do it with nero and failing so anyway maybe I'll get up someday at least I still got my DTV with my RCA reciever. I'll live but I sure was looking forward to that "tv will never be the same" experience

by the way T_RJ I know you are one of the wise ones around here so I should let you know I'm not trying to be a smarta## to you, I just giving a little long matter of fact type explanation I wish I could burn it with something else but at the moment I just dont seem to be able to.

and Pointfreak! I know I need to burn the ISO image not the ISO file to the disk, in nero when you click file then burn image it should convert the dang file and burn the image it did last week, or at least thats how I remember doing it then...but hey I been up going on 48 hours with about 4 hours sleep (working nites and just had to stay up and play at this stuff) so I could be missing something, sure dont think I am though, I mean I tried so many times and all :D.... oh by the way the machine Im running 25xtreme on has 1.5 gig of RAM so thats for sure not the prob

Try installing EZCD but not the DirectCD part. That was the main problem EZCD has had for a while. Worth a shot if you have the time.

had it installed like that once (no directcd) best I remember it was still buggy but I cant remember if that was before or after the xp patch came out for it, I got lots of time, so I'm sure I'll try it tomorow if I cant find a later copy of wincd that recognizes my burner, someone said that worked good so I'll try that first I guess, know of any other small (wincd is really pretty tiny considering how good it works, worked great before I changed cd-rw's) burning apps? in a month or so when I splurge and get my 2 way sat. internet I wont care about small anymore, but for now big d/l's cant be done here...(I tried to d/l 25xtreme myself first, last I looked it said 26 hours remaining...I had a friend burn the zip to a floppy for me hes got a cable modem...maybe I should have had him go ahead and make me a bootable copy to huh?....LOL)

CDRWin from http://www.goldenhawk.com/ gets my vote.

I've had no problems with burning under WinXP, using Nero, Discjuggler, or CDRWin. Do a Google search for "ForceASPI", it may help even if you are not using a SCSI writer.

oops, meant CDRwin not wincd it tells me "cant find ASPI manager" or something close to that, just d/l'ed lastest ASPI drivers from their site, got same message, getting latest version of CDRwin now.....ok cdrwin works now but if all you have to start with is the ISO how do you burn with it? it looks for cd, can burn from a cdrwin "cuesheet" if I remember from when I had it working before it creates the cuesheet when you save a cd image to HD, but if you just start with the iso image how do create the cuesheet?

I had the exact same 99% problem you have, and tried all the suggestions offered. None of them worked. Then I tried burning to a high quality blank and it worked. Used Nero.

Funny, I've burned about 175 times onto the 100-for-$12.95 blanks and never had a coaster before. Maybe using scsi helped. But this 25xtreme was a real problem.

Check out this thread

And read " alldeadhomiez " post he seems to have a fix that worked for him and his nero burned image.

I use FunCD/SecureCD.. don't remember where I got it.. but it burns disks.. .. hmm isn't that what all these fancy programs are supposed to do??????

wow.. I just realised that I'm so tied to the keyboard that I don't bother using the mouse, I just type  .. so if you ever see a broken smily.. consider it a typo.. :D

ok cdrwin works now but if all you have to start with is the ISO how do you burn with it?

go to Tools/Burn an ISO9660 image file. (At least that's it in CDRWin 3.x) 3.x requires an ASPI layer, use ForceASPI for this. I think 4.x installs its own ASPI layer.

ok now guess that proves I'm slow..:)
had been to tools, and tried from there, but didnt notice the drop down menu where you can select record iso image, it was set to something else there, guess all I needed to do was select that will try it later just for the heck of it on an CDRW so I can erase it when I'm done, allready got it done with NERO and working just by telling it disc at once that copy worked fine, was having troubles getting NERO to burn the actual image and not just the ISO file so I unzipped and rewrote the 25xtreme.iso file to HD then it burned image fine
