got 25xtremem installed, added 2nd drive it blessed it all looked to have gone good. replaced drives, booted tivo, says "powering up" then "almost there" then a green screen "a serious problem has occured do not turn off or remove power while unit attempst to correct this problem, if after 3 hours not repaired call 1800......" something to that effect anyway, then after about 10 sec's unit reboots and starts all over.

I have to assume this isnt the standard database rebuilding, I guess the thing to do is try running 25xtreme again. should I fdisk the drives and format them back to dos or anything to get rid of the bad install I seem to have? should I switch the drives? I kept the A drive in tivo as the A drive and added a 40 gig B for 70 total

let it run like this for about 3 or 4 minutes before I decided this wasnt what it should be doing to rebuild database

Several things to try. I would install extreme 2.5 again on only the original drive (you can always bless the second drive later). I would also use mfstools to set runideturbo=false. Then reboot and let it install 2.5.

Then I would pull the drive, dtivomad it and bless the new B drive.

up now, swaped drives made 40 gig A orig. tivo 30 gig B, after a couple of tries installing 25xtreme using different jumper settings I'm up and running, now I just gotta learn to reach out and touch something

this problem seems to pop up now and then for me, and i beleive i have narrowed it down to, pulling the plug on the tivo too soon after upgrading the drive. My assumption is the tivo is still upgrading things in the background, after it appears to be finished. OR simply pulling the plug reverts the drive, to a pre-finished upgrade state. Anyhow letting the unit sit plugged in overnight, after a drive imaging seems to slove the problem.. FYI ;)

it happened to me immediatly after inserting the plug, i replaced the drives and hooked up sat. etc. inserted power plug and it started its rebooting, probably about every 30 sec. just kept getting the power up screen, then the green serious problem screen, over and over, I only pulled the plug afer a few minutes of it doing it.

and also, reaching out and touching something wasnt as big a deal as I had worked it up in my mind to be, see lots of posts of people haveing trouble with that part, had me worried, should have just realized that for every 1 that posts because of troubles there are probably 10 not posting cause it went smooth

The Info is here!

The problem is most don't bother reading before doing.

Then there are the ones that claim they have been reading and clearly from there questions haven't read a damb thing.

Intelligent questions are almost always answered within an hour, sometimes seconds.

well say what you want, I did read for a couple of weeks before I started, maybe I should have read longer, the reading I did came back to me as I did my unit, seeing things that I remembered others had had trouble with etc. and it got me past their errors. but your right I probably didnt read enough, thats why I made my serial cable correctly without any trouble, achieved bash no problem, touched what needed to be touched with no troubly, now am I saying I'm ready to do anything I want with my tivo? HECK no, I can get around on the 25xtreme cd so I know just enough linux to screw something up, there's a few things I would like to try, but dont know enough about it yet, so I'll read a while longer, may never do them, I'm pretty happy with it the way it is, or I may read a lot and ask a few stupid questions in the meantime. I'm just glad there are those of you who when you started this you didnt have any questions, and everything worked right for yall the first time so you can answer my annoying questions

I wasn't flaming you.

I think you did just fine.

I was agreeing with you!

It is not that hard and a little reading and searching as you did will lead to positive results.

oh sorry (blushing) maybe it was that fourth bud lite or maybe it was just my conciounce (which made me feel like I hadn't looked enough) that I was being flamed (with a small flame, granted) for my posts.

I think I did ok on this to, not great, maybe more reading ahead of time would have helped? i dont know. mostly just hindsight telling me I should have put the 40 gig drive as A anyway, just because (I have no idea how tivo accesses drives, if it fills a then moves on to be or what) and had a problem with my first 25xtreme cd last nite that was caused by not setting NERO to disc at once and your right there are post out there that say that, ( I know I found them searching....although after I freaked out and posted my ??? about that)

right now all I know is I'm liking this tivo deal a whole lot and glad I went ahead and jumped in when I did

I got this once, tried rebooting and nothing. I got mad thinking I was going to have to reinstall 25Xtreme and left it plugged in. Took my son to basketball practice and returned 2 hours later to find it had fixed itself and I could watch tv. Go figure.
