I was looking to replace my LOUD Quantum LCT20 40gb hd that came with my DSR6k, when I did a search for specs.

I didnt find anything I quite liking. According to all the websites I've found the LCT20 (Quantum p/n QML40000LD-A) is either a 5400 or 4500 rpm hd...

Can anyone confirm this?

I think the original LCT's used in the SA TiVo's were 5400RPM, but later ones were 4500. Slower drives mean less heat, so I wouldn't worry about RPM. Just make sure your replacement is at least as big as the original. Some mfgrs bend the rules a little, and people have been stuck with 40GB image not fitting on a 39.8GB drive. (Not real numbers, but you get the idea.) :D

The Seagate Barracuda IV and U series & Maxtor's DiamondMax and DiamondMaxPlus series drives uses a "Fluid Dynamic Bearing" motor which makes them practically silent.

My DSR6000 has a Barracuda IV 80GB and a DiamondMaxPlus 80GB installed and the cooling fan is noisier than the drives!

As for heat issues, my DSR6000 fluctuates between 47C-50C (Normal).
