Serial Cable

I have the two cable I need to make my serial cable (I think). Now on the stereo cable I am a little confused. It only has two wires. There is a red one and a white one. They are both surrounded by copper wire.

Is this correct?

What are the correct pin to attech it to on the 9 pin serial cable?

Tip Red Wire -> Pin2
Middle Black Wire -> Pin3
Outer Ring Silver Wire -> Pin5
