ok ONE more ;) , is it safe to use "Textpad" to edit the channels.dat file? or is it a ONLY throught the terra term window that these edits should be made? thank you all

textpad is fine. Save in unix format.

it seems as though i could leave the "2's" for keepers , and then use "zero's"at the end of the line OR a "#" at the START of each line to omit it? is that correct? , ( all this pussyfooting will help in the long run when i'm not back cryintg that i broke it ;) thank you again

Use a # in front. Adding a 0 at the end will work, BUT causes mvchannels to have to work harder. Easier to simply delete the lines you dont use.

You are working on a copy, correct? ;-)

well actually i DO have a couple of unzipped copies ,, but , as i understand it , i edit it using textpad , "#" at the start of unwanted channel , save the results as unix file AND THEN and ONLY THEN load in into tivo through the handy dandy terra term ,, so , in other words my "copy" becomes the active filel right? or should i ALREADY have transferred the files in there? , ( and i bet you can tell what part has me worried  , yup its the transfer i haint yet tried:eek:
(but i think i can DO IT!!!)

Doing it in textpad is fine. Once you like the way it looks, zmodem it into /var/hack

To transfer is in teraterm:

cd /var/hack
rz
from TT: File->Transfer->Zmodem->Send
Browse for file.
OK

Thats all there is to it.

hmmmm right off the bat i noticed that there was a "new" file called ,(suspiciously), channels.dat.txt ,, somehow , AND it has my edits the other one is the original in ".dat", tho i'm sure i saved as unix , but ANSI encoding ? that right? see , i could screw up a wet,,, forgit it , you get me drift , but thanks for your patience

ANSI is fine. Unix format is required.

download the one you changed. Then do an ls and if the name is not channels.dat do a:

mv <whatever> channels.dat

then do a cat channels.dat and verify it looks good

well ,, i saved the file with " " marks around it , and that forced the file to save as a dat file , NOW however i have attempted sending the file ,, everything went fine except there was NO file name and there was no indication that anything took place .,?? i will investigate and try again , thanks god i haven't lost the precious bash!!

well i think i got em' in there , i tried to SEE em' and i confess tho i can see mvchannels.tcl , but the otehr 2 have proven elusive anyway is ther now ssomething let to "do" ? i mean i've read about commands to activate or make executable? or is that passe'? thanks for the help

Did you download all three at the same time?

do:

cd /var/hack
ls

you should see them in there. If not, you need to find out what directory you were in when you downloaded the files.

Send the three files individually. One at a time.
