I'm getting a Phillips HDR 112 and I want to upgrade it right away. What hard drive can I use. I have read that you can only Quantum drives now Maxtor. I have found a good deal on a "Maxtor 60.0GB #4K060H3 D540X UDMA133 INT EIDE 5400RPM - oem" drive for $89.00 is this the right drive?

any brand harddisk will do, ata33 and 5400 rpm are ok. any newwer HD is downwards competable.

Most of the posts I have read have given these basic suggestions:

-Since TIVO is ATA-100 120GB is the max (I have heard others have used higher but 120GB seems to be the highest supported drive for ATA-100)

-try and get a 5400 RPM due to heat/noise. 7200RPM will also work but increases heat & noise

-Any brand will work for a HD will work as long as it is not SCSI as stated above

****I'm going to save money for a 120GB and bypass the smaller drives. If you can I'd wait and get the Max instead of a boost.

Hope this helps,

i bought two of these a few weeks ago, they shipped immediately, arrived in three days. they are OEM bulk drives - no rails, screws, cables, boxes, documentation included - just the original Maxtor drive in the anti-static bag, well cushioned and packaged for shipping.

i have no personal involvement with the vendor, except as a VERY satisified customer, :) happy with a great price on a good disk drive that was exactly what i was looking for.

Stay away from the WD drives.. I got a WD600 60GB 5400 because I wanted it to be quite and cool. It was neither. My dsr6000 ran very hot and you could hear it from down the street. Sounded like an incoming helocopter.
I finally bit the bullet and bought a seagate baracuda IV 80GB 7200rpm drive. (this was recommended time and again on tivocommunity.com) It is just about silent, and very cool to the touch. internal temp is about 45c.
