Is my tIvo OK?

I have an sa tivo and I want to watch my tv without tivo while tivo is recording another channel. I’ve tried it but I get a lot of interference on the tv from the tivo. If I attach the cable directly to the tv I don't get any interference from tivo, but the tivo will no longer have the cable. I don't want to split the signal and loose picture quality.

Is there something wrong with my tivo, or is this the case with all tivos? I have an Phillips HDR112 that was reconditioned and it is still under warranty.

Since there is only one tuner in the SA Tivo, you can watch a recorded show, or whatever it's recording at the time. You'll have to split the cable so the TV tuner can be used to tune to another channel. I'm pretty sure the SA Tivo only passes the RF (cable) input straight thru when it's in Standby mode. You won't lose too much signal with a decent quality splitter.
