With the background you posess, you should easily be able to go through the HowTos and have your DTiVo up in no time

THIS (http://www.newreleasesvideo.com/hinsdale-how-to/) Should tell you everything you need to know.
The main differece between adding a drive to a Direct Tivo Vs. a SA is that with 2.5 software, you can't easily use a backup image from another Tivo without doing a "Clear & Delete Everything". Also, a prom flash may be required if you want to do some additional hacking to the unit. If this is the case you may want to look into 2.5extreme.

Where do I get 2.5extreme? I found a link to a sony version. If I have a Phillips DTV Tivo can I use it or do I have to use a different version?

2.5xtreme was developed for the dsr6000 and there are images specifically for that machine (remote control) available. Use the search function for this forum and look for posts by surgeon as he did much of the work on this image.
