I'm wondering if it's possible to take a hard drive out of one dtivo unit and install it inot another without re-applying 25xtreme? I'd like to prepare an 80 gig drive for a friend (including subscription fixes and locals) in my Tivo, then remove the drive and ship it to him. Is this something I can do, or will I run into issues? Does Tivo write it's s/n or specific information to the hd and then work only in that tivo?

Many thanks

If the DTiVo you're putting the drive into has had the prom flashed it should work ok. However, I've seen some error 51 problems with T60 and GXCEBOT doing this, but a clear and delete everything will fix it.

superzap, I assume by your post that your friends prom isn't flashed. That means that it won't work. The best you can do is reinstall extreme, don't put the drive in your tivo. Send it to him and tell him how to boot so it flashes his prom, etc. Then tell him how to do the Bash thing...or have him send you back the drive, so you can perform the rest of the hack & send it back.

I suppose if you had the time you could write a one-time script that would run after all the Xtreme stuff has happened to do the touching for them.
