Any security issues with placing that 1st phone call with line in?

After I have installed xtreme2.5, I want to get the showcases and mag. Are there not some security issues to worry about when placing the call. I will leave my access card out. Don't they log your phone number? Do you have to enter your phone number before you can dial out?

You could try PGM's program on page 8 of the thread here (http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?postid=29728#post29728).

You don't have to enter your phone number, but they can get it from caller ID. If you've done much with the box, I'd wipe the log files too.

I haven't even hooked up the box. So, the log files shouldn't be a problem. PGMs file will get me all the showcases, etc?

I have read, read and read some more. I still haven't hooked up the unit and it's been a week. Just when I think I have everything figured out,I run into another little snag.

Is the file a one time application?

Well there seems to be some debate over how permanent it really is. If you've never hooked up the box, are you planning to Xtreme it? If so, then there's no point in letting it call in until after you've modified it.

Yes, I am going to xtreme it. But, I was told to let it call in once "for real" to get the showcases, etc (this will done after xtreme of course). Then, I will touch it. I'm just concerned with the one phone call.

Well I think we're all a bit afraid of the call-in, but that's the risks of the hobbie I guess, at least until TiVo finds a way to block them. :(

theres nothing wrong with the first call in, if you haven`t extremed it yet , think about it -you`ve done nothing to the unit yet ,all your doing is calling in to do the initial setup

If you haven't Xtremed it there's no point in dialing in, since Xtreme is going to wipe the drive. (Unless you go the manual route.)

I understood your post RxMan, I was responding to Start101's post. Sorry for the confusion.
