Hey all »
Quick (stupid) question here... maybe cause it's too late at night and I've been reading too many contradictory things tonight in preparation for doing up my first TiVo unit (DSR6000.. putting on 25xtreme.. no HD upgrade/adding for now).
I'm stubborn and I want to make a backup of my (virgin, out of the box) A drive out of the TiVo using MFSTOOL.
I have a motherboard with an onboard RAID/ATA100 controller (with 2 IDE channels) in addition to the regular standard 2 IDE channels.
I've got an IDE CDROM on Primary Master on the regular IDE and nothing on Primary Slave or the entire Secondary channel.
I've got 2 ATA100 drives on the RAID/ATA100 controller and one has 4 primary partitions (3 NTFS, 1 FAT32) and the other has 3 primary partitions (2 NTFS, 1 Linux partition).
So my CDROM is on /dev/hda, I've got nothing on /dev/hdb, /dev/hdc and /dev/hdd (yet). The TiVo A drive is going to go on /dev/hdc.
Question: Is there a problem mounting /dev/hde3 (my FAT32 partition) as 'rw' and using MFSTOOL to 'backup' to there? I'm confused cause I've been reading all this stuff about how the "DOS" drive has to be on /dev/hda, blah, blah blah...
Can't I just mount, "mfstool backup -6 -o /mnt/dos/mybackup.bak /dev/hdc" and umount?!?
Thanks a lot in advance for any helpful advice on this one. I do know my Linux and I feel comfortable doing this stuff and I'm thinking there should be no problem, but I want to make sure of any TiVo or MFSTOOL related hardcoding that would prevent me from doing this.
