I've pulled and inserted shows as big as 20GB from and between S1 UK SA TiVo. So the problem shouldn't be the file size.

You can access this log through tivoweb:

And thats exactly how it looks as well if you ftp from your tivo, although on my S1 mine is here:

/var/log/tivoLog.prv...

I've got a wireless G setup with UK machines and have inserts and extracts runnig at roughly the same speed as with a wired link.

~1,300Kbps wireless with ~1,500Kbps wired extracts

~750Kbps...

Here's a strange question for you, I have two tivo both the same uk tivo model, on one tivo tytool pulls the listings fine on the second it won't!
